Life can seem a bit boring sometimes but only if you let it. Sure, you can keep puffing away on that standard tobacco flavoured e-liquid, but it’s hardly the most exciting experience you can have. Mix it up with some crazy flavours because you get out of life what you put in, so put in something a little exciting. Why not cycle to work sometimes, or start collecting hats. Sit down and chat for a bit to the homeless guy instead of silently dropping a couple of quid in his cup. We reap what we sow, so sow something interesting!
Strangers are just friends you haven’t met yet, as my many conversations with random people who notice me vaping in public have proved. We can sometimes appear cold and detached from each other especially in large cities, but there’s lots of opportunity for some friendly banter with folks who haven’t yet been initiated into the workings of electronic cigarettes. Don’t ignore any stares you get, embrace them and take the time to educate the masses.
Sometimes you just need to recharge your battery, whether it’s via a holiday or a day spent under the covers marathoning a season of your favourite TV show (my personal favourite recharging technique). It’s the same with an e-cig as the finest hit is when the battery is fully charged and the weakest is when it’s starting to run out. So when you’re starting to feel run down, don’t waste any more time, just get yourself charged up in whatever way works best for you.
The actual physical craving of tobacco addiction is relatively light, but we form habits which are much harder to break. The first e-cig I ever tried years ago was a funny looking contraption that resembled one of Doctor Who’s sonic screwdrivers, and it just felt weird. But then I discovered the e–cigs that resembled tobacco cigarettes and something just clicked in my brain. It felt natural, looked similar and it was these looky-likey e-cigs that enabled me to continue vaping without missing the tobacco cigarettes so much. I had fooled my own brain.
I never really paid much attention to breathing, after all it does seem quite easy on the face it. But switching to vaping from tobacco cigarettes opened my eyes to a truth that I’m sure only people who once smoked tobacco and then were able to give it up will understand. Climbing a flight of stairs isn’t meant to leave you panting for breath. The truth is that physical activities that once seemed to take so much effort and willpower to achieve were actually quite easy all along. But you won’t truly realise the extent to which it is the smoking of tobacco that makes light physical activities difficult until you have been smoke-free for a while. Since I switched to vaping, stairs just don’t intimidate me anymore.
Packing in the tobacco cigarettes and switching to e-cigs was one of the greatest things I’ve done for my health, and it’s something we as a species should be replicating when it comes to fossil fuels. There are better ways to go about our lives and better energy sources which we can harness which don’t do irreversible damage to the earth. We just need to invest in the cleaner, self-sustaining technology that will ensure we have a future on this planet.
We humans can look pretty different from each other depending on which part of the world our immediate genetics come from, but underneath all the superficial aesthetic differences, we’re all pretty similar in our needs and desires. It’s the same with disposable e-cigs and the larger vaporisers which might look completely different on the outside, but underneath it all they all work off the exact same principle.
Keeping it simple should be a highly recommended lifestyle choice in my opinion. The more complicated our lives get, the more stressful and exhausting they can be. Consider the four ingredients of e-liquid compared to the hundreds of chemical ingredients of a tobacco cigarette. One won’t harm you and is a very pleasant experience, while the other will rot your insides and expose you to all sorts of nasty diseases.
Becoming an electronic cigarette user has also taught me that life just isn’t fair sometimes. Despite it being perfectly legal by all definitions of the term and scientifically proven to pose no passive threat to other people in the vicinity of it, vaping on an e-cig has been privately banned from several public venues such as JD Wetherspoon’s pubs. It’s understandable to a degree, I suppose, but it does seem a little bit petty and, well, unfair.
One of the best things about vaping on electronic cigarettes is that it has made me realise how much better certain foods smell and taste. I didn’t notice it so much back when I was going through 20 cigarettes a day, but now my sense of smell and my taste-buds have been able to recover from the damage I was causing them with tobacco, it’s like a whole new adventure during dinner time. It took a little time and a lot of effort, but it was worth the wait! And much like my taste buds it often takes time and patience, but most damage can be repaired. Be it your health, relationships, financial situation, or whatever it is that’s troubling you. It’s not always easy, it may take some time and a lot of perseverance, but it’s worth the effort when you get there.
